The new Rose-Belle Youth Hub, opened, last Friday in presence of the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, the Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Mahen Kumar Seeruttun, the Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Ms Naveena Ramyad, and other personalities.
A défilé of regular users of the hub including those practising Ju-Jitsu, Karate, Judo, Zumba, and Boxing accompanied by the Scouts, the Police Band and the Fire and Rescue Officers of Rose-Belle Fire Station was also held on the occasion.
It is recalled that the first youth centre in Rose-Belle was located in an ancient building at Dispensary Road Rose- Belle. With the enactment of the Sports Act 1985 and the creation of the Ministry of Arts and Culture in 1987, a new philosophy for the Youth Department was developed with the construction of youth centres around the island. The Ex Rose- Belle Youth Centre was inaugurated in the actual location in 1989.
The building wa
s in a bad state and needed renovation works. The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, thus, embarked on the renovation of the centre. The new youth hub will act as a one-stop shop where young people can practice sports activities as well as have training on different subjects and fields like Leadership, Life Skills, Entrepreneurship, National Youth Civic Service, Climate Change, Sapeurs- Pompiers, and First- Aid among others.
