The re-appointed members of the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), Mr Gheeanduth Seechurn, Mr Louis Richard Toulouse, and Mr Gunneswar Shibchurn, have taken Oath of Office before the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, during a swearing-in ceremony held, this morning, at the State House, Le Réduit.
They will assume office for a tenure of four years, effective as from today.
In a statement following the ceremony, the members expressed their gratitude to President Roopun and the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, for entrusting them with a significant responsibility, that of assuring elimination of discrimination and promotion of equality of opportunity.
Mr Seechurn underlined that the EOC is an independent statutory body set up under the Equal Opportunities Act 2008 in view to promote anti-discrimination and equal opportunity principles and policies throughout Mauritius. Recalling his previous appointment at the EOC, he affirmed that his re-appointment is a continua
tion of the work initiated four years ago. More than 300 complaints have already been resolved, he said, while reiterating his unwavering commitment to keep up with the good work.
As for Mr Toulouse, highlighted the fundamental role of the EOC in ensuring social peace and national unity. Likewise, Mr Shibchurn expressed his pride in serving the EOC and bringing in his contribution to the task of treating cases of discrimination and promoting equality.
