The Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Mr Dharmendar Sesungkur received the Executive Secretary of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, Mr Janneh, on 08 November 2018, in Ebène.
In a statement, the Minister highlighted that discussions focused mostly on good governance practices in Mauritius. He referred to the Mo Ibrahim Index 2018 which ranks Mauritius first in Overall Governance in Africa.
According to Minister Sesungkur, the country’s laudable performance showcases the relentless efforts of Government to improve the quality of life of the population as well as the climate and business investment environment. The Mo Ibrahim Foundation is impressed by the level of good governance in Mauritius and by the conduct of state affairs that are undertaken in a transparent and accountable way, he said.
In addition, the Minister underlined that the visit of Mr Janneh as a representative of the Foundation is symbolical as it encourages Mauritius to keep up the good work and to further strive for excellence in Overall Governance in Africa. Government is determined to ensure that institutions put in place the right structures to inculcate the principles of ethics and good governance for the younger generation, he emphasised.
Mo Ibrahim Foundation’s Executive Secretary is currently attending the African Network of Good Governance Conference in Mauritius. The event is a two-day high-level meeting of the African Network on Corporate Governance of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). Local and international experts of the financial sector are attending the conference which aims at identifying common challenges related to SOEs and good governance.
