The governor of the Littoral region Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua has reiterated that the security of the city of Douala is under control. He re-echoed this on Saturday, September 21, 2024, when he descended on a crime scene in Bali in the Douala 1 municipality where a group of hoodlums better known as microbes, armed with knives and machetes attacked and assaulted people, killing one.
‘We call on the population not to panic for the security of the city is under control. Every security disposition has been taken to protect the population from repeated attacks of this nature’. Governor Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua assured.
The deadly incident at about 7:00 pm Friday, September 20, 2024, was the time the group of individuals about 15 in number, stormed the Ola filling station in Bali, harassing people, and collecting money and telephones from them.
They also got into shops ordering the sales persons to surrender all the money they had.
‘They threatened to kill me, took the sum of 130,000frs and telephones
I had on me. They injured me on the back, arms, and legs. Several other people were wounded and a man was stabbed to death’. Disclosed a victim of the attack.
After listening to testimonies from the victims, Governor Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua and his entourage visited the Aluchem and Laquintini hospitals said to be where injured victims were taken for medical care.
It was only at the Laquintini hospital that a victim with severe cuts was hospitalised. The medic taking charge of him said ‘he was out of danger after re-animation’.
The Littoral Chief Executive Officer regretted the late alert made by the population but assured that all the assailants would be identified and arrested through two suspected members of the gang nabbed by the gendarmes and police.
‘They will be interrogated. Through them the others will be arrested’. Assured the governor.
Collaboration with administrative and security officials to cleanse the city from criminals is what Governor Diboua expects from the population of Douala.
