Separatist fighters on Monday, May 20, 2024, killed the Mayor of Belo council, Dr. Ngong Innocent together with the Inspector of Basic Education for Belo and one councilor.

CNA learned they were attacked on their way to the grandstand in Boyo, for the National Day celebration.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers faced by public officials in conflict-affected Divisions, where separatist violence poses a significant threat to stability and security. The targeted killing of the Mayor of Belo council, Dr. Ngong Innocent, alongside the Inspector of Basic Education for Belo who is also his Deputy plus one councilor, underscores the urgent need for efforts to address the root causes of separatist attacks and to promote peace and reconciliation.

The Cameroon government has failed to show commitment to two different peace talks by Switzerland and Canada.
