In a concerted effort to strengthen educational services and streamline operations, the Department of Education and Vocational Training in Bomet County convened a comprehensive progress update meeting to check on the status of various projects across the County.
Led by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education Agnes Ngeno, the gathering aimed at addressing ongoing programmes, projects, and administrative issues crucial to the department’s mission.
The department disclosed the disbursement of significant funds toward scholarship programmes, with Sh65 million allocated to over 14,250 partial scholarship beneficiaries and Sh77 million disbursed to 1,250 full scholarship recipients in the current fiscal year.
Additionally, Sh25 million has been directed towards supporting both full and partial scholarship students in Vocational Training Centers (VTCs).
Moreover, a meticulous distribution of learning materials to Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers was emphasized, to ensure ti
mely availability and equitable access.
The commitment to enhancing teaching quality was underscored by plans to provide Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training, particularly focused on the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), through collaborations with the Kenya Literature Bureau.
Addressing the vital aspect of human resources, it was revealed that the department currently employs 1,343 teachers across 1,233 centers, with further recruitment efforts underway in collaboration with the County Public Service Board (CPSB).
The successful implementation of the feeding programme throughout the term was lauded, with a call for sustained effectiveness in distribution by Ward Education Coordinators (WECs) throughout the academic year.
