Busia County Government Boycott Mashujaa Day Celebrations in Teso North

Busia County Government yesterday boycotted the county Mashujaa Day celebrations at Chelelelemuk in Teso North Sub-County and instead held a parallel celebration at St Benedict’s Budalangi High School in Bunyala subcounty.

The move comes amid sharp differences having emerged between the office of the County Commissioner and office of the Governor following an outcry by Governor Otuoma for what he terms as political interference.

Busia county Commissioner Chaunga Mwachaunga warned teachers who will engage in exam malpractice that they won’t be spared as the nation near the exams session.

‘As we near exam period no phone will be allowed in the examination center. All teachers supervising the exam must comply with the rules laid down by KNEC,’ said CC Chaunga.

The CC noted that the education stakeholders will work in unisom to freeze out all brokers who have positioned themselves to deceive the public with fake exam materials.

Changua suspended all-night vigil within the county during this exam period noti
ng that learners need adequate time to prepare for the exam.

‘Disco-matanga stands suspended during this exam period across all the seven sub counties, and anyone who wants to have night vigil must obtain permission from my office,’ he added.

Busia governor Paul Otuoma while speaking at Budalangi slammed the office of County Commissioner for engaging in politics which has a steer-up division in the county.

‘I want to urged our County Commissioner to stop engaging in politics and instead focus on primary mandate service to the people of Busia,’ said Otuoma

Otuoma stated that this is an important opportunity for all the people of Busia to showcase their potential in various fields, and he urged them to grab this opportunity in haste.

‘We have aligned our economic development strategies to this bloc by harnessing our collective efforts to enhance our bargaining power on the global stage. Recognizing the importance of investing in infrastructure, we have lined up several projects, including the expansion of
the Busia-Kisumu Road into a dual-carriageway,’ stated Dr. Otuoma.

The Busia Governor also stated that plans are at an advanced stage towards construction of the centralized county government office block.

‘I am happy to report that my Administration is finalizing plans to set up a centralized office block. As I have previously mentioned, our County Government offices are currently housed in private premises scattered all over the place. Our people, who are seeking services, cannot even locate these premises with ease,’ he said.

Among those who attended the celebrations in Teso North included former Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and 2027 gubernatorial aspirant Eng. Vincent Sidai.
