Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia has identified Gender Based Violence (GBV) and alcoholism as the main causes of murder incidents reported in the county.
He decried increased cases of infidelity among spouses and young men fighting for girlfriends, saying such incidents have contributed to over 90 per cent of murder cases reported in the county in the last three months.
Lotiatia refuted information in the social media platforms that tint the county as an insecure area and called on residents not to blow the security issue out of proportion as it could scare potential investors from the town.
‘These isolated cases reported have been handled effectively by the security organs. More than 90 percent of these cases are associated with GBV, alcoholism, infidelity in marriages and young men fighting over girlfriends,’ he said.
He called on residents to embrace a brotherhood spirit and report any criminal hiding in their midst to the police, who will carry out investigations on the suspect.

eiterated that tens of suspicious people are arrested in various trading centres every day by police on patrol.
While referring to skirmishes at Likia area at the border of Narok and Nakuru counties, the commissioner said the police had managed to calm the situation and peace was restored in the volatile land.
He underscored the need for the people living in the area to embrace peace and unity for development.
‘The Likia area is very fertile for agriculture because it borders the forest. I urge the residents to concentrate on farming and livestock keeping so that they can develop instead of battling one another over issues that can be resolved easily,’ he said.
At the same time, the commissioner decried increased cases of residents barricading major highways whenever there was an accident along the road.
Lotiatia reminded the locals that there were better ways of resolving incidents that occur along the road instead of barricading the road and barring innocent people from getting to their point of destin
ation on time.
‘We have had issues at Ntulele trading centre along the Narok- Maai Mahiu highway and Kisiriri area along the Narok- Mau Road. There is no point in blocking the road for a whole day and denying the road users their right of getting to their destinations on time,’ he said.
The CC and Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu led the celebrations. Also present was Narok North Member of Parliament Agnes Pareyio, Narok County Executive Members and a host of Narok Members of County Assembly.
