The government won’t tolerate individuals who unlawfully invade and torch peoples sugarcane plantations.
Nandi County Commissioner Caroline Nzwili revealed that some idle people were locating mature cane plantations within Tinderet and Aldai Sub-Counties in order to set on fire so that the owners can give them harvesting work.
Nzwili warned that the police shall arrest such individuals and prosecute them for committing economic sabotage.
She said police had earlier made arrests of suspects on this crime but promised continue with thorough investigation, more arrests and deserved punishment on people who thrive in such kind of criminal acts.
‘There are people who break the law and think they will get away with it; we can’t accept and that is why we are here,’ Commissioner Nzwili sent a stern warning to residents of Senetwo in Tinderet Sub-County during the celebration of Mashujaa.
The CC also sent caution to the locals who invade private property that the government will use existing laws to deal with su
ch people.
‘If there are issues of land or any other private property, let people use existing courts and file their cases which shall be determined than breaking the law,’ she said.
Nzwili pleaded with opinion leaders, local state and non-state actors to continue educating the people on importance of embracing legal means in pursuit of perceived justice denial.
Further, Commissioner Nzwili waded through cases of cattle theft which according to her has recently soared especially in Tinderet and Aldai Sub-Counties.
‘I have a report that there is syndicate of cattle thieves that steal cows as far as Muhoroni and Kisumu, thereafter hide them in Bonjoke Forest,’ Nzwili said.
She warned that police with help from Kenya Forest Service unit will comb Bonjoke Forest and other suspected stolen cows hide outs in a move to break cattle theft ring that has perpetuated poverty along Kisumu- Nandi border.On war against illicit brew, Nzwili asked all the key players to continue working together until locals understand
the risks of consuming outlawed brews.
Nandi County Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Mitei present during Mashujaa Day Celebrations hailed the cooperation between National and County Government in the fight against illicit brew in Nandi.
Dr Mitei thanked commissioner Nzwili and the entire National Government security team for ensuring residents of Nandi aren’t destroyed by unhealthy consumption of illicit brew.
‘I want to thank the work of Commissioner Nzwili and the entire National Government security team for working together with County Alcohol and Liquor Control Committee in the fight against illicit brew,’ DG Dr Mitei noted.
She thanked residents of Tinderet for accepting to work on reducing substantially the consumption of illicit brew.
The function was also attended by Nandi County Security team, National Government Heads of Departments, County officials and several senior government officials.
