Construction Of Sh 272 Million Market Launched

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has officially launched the ground breaking of the construction of a Sh 272 million ultra-modern market at Kamukuywa in Kimilili Sub County, Bungoma County. Lusaka said that the state-of-the-art facility with a capacity to accommodate 4,000 traders will comprise stalls, banking hall, offices, sanitation facilities, open-air retail space, paved drive-ways, and a baby care room. He noted that once complete, the market will be a relief to traders who ply their trade on dusty and unhygienic grounds besides the busy Kitale-Webuye tarmac. ‘The perimeter wall around the market and well-fitted flood lights will ensure the safety of traders and their merchandise, allowing for a 24-hour business cycle,’ he said. While addressing the residents at the market, Lusaka said the project was in line with his government’s plan to grow the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) sector to propel the economy of the county. The Governor noted that the project will significantly improve the business environment at Kamukuywa, which sits on a Webuye-Kitale highway. Present during the groundbreaking ceremony was Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, who said that this significant event marks the initiation of the market’s development, which is expected to bring numerous advantages to the local community. ‘The establishment of this market is a promising step towards boosting local commerce and improving the overall livelihoods of the people in the region,’ he said.
