County Set To Implement Climate Resilient Projects


The County Government of Trans Nzoia is set to oversee implementation of climate resilient projects following approval by the public.

This follows a seal of approval by residents of Matisi and Kinyoro wards who said the implementation of the projects has come at the right time the world is struggling to counter the effects of climate change.

The projects are being sponsored by World Bank in collaboration with the county government under Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLOCA) Program which has endeavors to deliver locally-led climate resilience actions and strengthen county and national government’s capacity to manage climate change risks.

For the past one week, the County Climate Change Unit (CCCU) has been screening the identified projects in a bid to ascertain the social and environmental impacts they will cause, once implemented.

CCCU lead person Godfrey Wekesa revealed that full implementation of the projects will soon start, as funds for the projects has been availed.

Project Management Commi
ttees (PCM) to help in the implementation exercise have already been selected by the communities.

Besides giving a helping hand in the implementation exercise, the PCMs will also serve to represent communal interests.

Some of the identified projects include water connectivity, rehabilitation of water springs, establishment of nurseries for indigenous and fruit trees, rehabilitation and equipping of fish ponds and provision of energy saving jikos to selected vulnerable groups.
