Disabled Individuals Worst Hit By Floods In Tana River

Tana River County Chairman, Mr.Said Babwoya, has urged the National government, county governments, and non-governmental organizations to intervene and support disabled persons affected by floods in the county.

Speaking to the press in Hola town Wednesday, the Chairman urged humanitarian organizations to provide food and non-food items like mosquito nets, blankets, and kitchen sets to disabled persons affected by floods following River Tana’s overflow due to the ongoing heavy rainfall.

Mr. Babwoya, accompanied by the Secretary Mrs. Elizabeth Balo said, that during flood situations, the most affected groups are the children, elderly persons, and disabled persons who need special attention. Disabled persons have been seriously affected and need special support due to the nature of their disability.

He added that, in times of disease, medical drugs should be supplied to disabled persons, saying the flood waters contribute to diseases such as diarrhea, and malaria that require urgent attention.
