Douala: Residents want departure of a noisy church from Ngodi-Bakoko

Residents around the Rhema church of the Cameroon Baptist Congregation in Ngodi-Bakoko in the Douala 3 municipality are soliciting the D.O to to ban or put to order the church that has been disturbing their peace and tranquility.

An order of the D.O that sealed the church in November 2023, according to the locals seems to have instead radicalized the worshippers after it was lifted.

‘Ever since the church was unsealed , they rather amplified their noise and extended their worship time. They start activities on the day and end late in the night. You return from work tired yet you can’t rest or sleep even when you lock the doors and windows’. A resident cried out.

Some parents are angered because their children face difficulties to study at night with the noise from loud speakers and musical instruments, the singing, deliverance and shouting.

‘I have brought different home teachers and they also complained they cannot teach in such a noisy environment. Children don’t even concentrate or retain what they st
udy.’ Another inhabitant said.

A local takes side with the church as he said ‘since establishment of the church, the quarter noted for witchcraft practices changed completely with all the witches and wizards in animal form cast away’.

One of the pastors in disappointment said ‘you cannot like God and hate singing songs of praise to him’. According to the man of God, the residents should rather seize the opportunity to join the prayer and worship that draw them closer to God than complaining and advocating for the departure of the church from Ngodi-Bakoko.
