DPM, FM Demeke Says Seedlings Planting Demonstrates Our Commitment to Fight Global Climate Change

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonen said planting of seedlings in Ethiopia demonstrates the commitment of the country to find a sustainable solution to the global climate change challenges.

Demeke made the remark while planting seedlings today at Gulele Botanical Garden in Addis Ababa as part of the 500 million seedlings planned to be planted in one day.

Addis Ababa City Mayor Adanech Abiebie, other officials and members of the diplomatic community and various segments of the society were present at the seedlings planting event.

Demeke said during the occasion that Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative is crucial to mitigate problems related to climate change the world is facing.

He said the day demonstrates the commitment of Ethiopia to find a sustainable solution to the global climate change challenges.

Noting that Ethiopians have successfully completed the first round of the Green Legacy Initiative by planning 25 billion seedlings over the past four years, Demeke expressed his confidence that the second round will also register similar successes.

Mayor of Addis Ababa Adanech Abiebie for her part said seedlings will be planted in more than 140 locations in Addis Ababa today.

Ethiopia has been carrying out a massive tree planting activities under its Green Legacy Initiative which is initiated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
