Addressing the media at the County Headquarters, Uasin Gishu County Governor, Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, confirmed that following communication from the Office of the President, the conferment to city status of Eldoret Municipality, has been postponed for a week.
‘I call upon the great people of Uasin Gishu to continue working with the County Government towards making the great and historic event a success,’ he said.
Dr. Bii noted that this elevation is part of an exciting journey that started a long time ago. A process that began as a concept went through the necessary legal steps and saw Eldoret meet all the requirements needed to qualify for city status.
‘The preparation for the conferment ceremony has been marked by careful planning and dedication by various stakeholders in our county,’ he said.
He noted that his Administration has been working tirelessly over the past months to ensure that every aspect of this historic event is executed flawlessly.
‘From the continuous beautification of our town and
the clean-up exercise to the series of engagements with other stakeholders and the business community through the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSEMs) expo,’ noted Dr. Bii.
‘Today, I will be officiating the Kenyan Urban Forum Conference at the County; tomorrow, the SISIBO Cultural Festival will be held at Central Grounds; therefore, I take this opportunity to welcome all of you to celebrate our cultural heritage,’ he added.
Noting that Eldoret is known as the farmers city with over 100 years of feeding the nation, the Governor said, the County will host Eldoret City Farmers Day as part of build-up activity this week, where all farmers will come with their farm implements, tools, and tractors to showcase their activities as real farmers and that they have indeed fed the nation.
