Ethiopia, German Parliamentarians Discuss about Ways of Strengthening Ties and Cooperation

Ethiopian and German parliamentarians have discussed about ways of bolstering existing ties during a meeting held in Addis Ababa.

House of People’s Representatives (HPR) Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee Chairperson Dima Negewo and German Federal Parliament’s (Bundestag) Foreign Affairs Committee delegation head Stefan Keuter held the talks today.

The HPR Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee Chairperson emphasized on the occasion the importance of further solidifying parliamentary connections and bilateral relations between the two countries.

According to him, Ethiopia is on the path of ensuring peace and stability through the Pretoria agreement and other efforts.

These will contribute to the peace and security in the region, he added

Moreover, Dima said that Ethiopia needs German investment and support in productive sectors, including agriculture, industry, mining and energy.

He expressed his belief that the investment and cooperation and support between the count
ries would be beneficial both for Ethiopia and Germany.

“We believe Germany can also benefit if it invests in these areas,” Dima stated.

Emphasizing the role Ethiopia plays in Africa as host of the African Union and managing Africa’s best airline, the German delegation head said “we are here to get to know something about the cooperation between our countries and to listen to you what you think is important in our cooperation, what can be done, what are your problems. We can perhaps support and this is why we are here.”

Keuter further expressed his belief that Ethiopia will achieve its goals.

The discussion between the parliamentarians generally focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing issues of shared interest in both Ethiopia and the broader region.
