The French Ambassador to Mauritius, Mr Emmanuel Cohet, accompanied by a delegation of representatives of Groupe ADP, formerly Aeroports de Paris, met the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, today at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.
In a statement after the meeting a representative of Groupe ADP underlined that the meeting with Prime Minister Jugnauth focused on the forthcoming projects related to SSR International Airport concerning the expansion of the existing runway and infrastructure.
He highlighted that the number of passengers have increased in a very significant manner over the last years reaching four million passengers in 2017 and as such Mauritius should be ready to have the necessary infrastructure to accommodate up to 10 million passenger over the coming years.
The development and expansion of the airport of Rodrigues was also at the fore of discussions.
It is to be recalled that Prime Minister Jugnauth has announced that the Airport Master Plan is being reviewed to accommodate the construction of a second passenger terminal which is another major infrastructure project in view to modernise the sector. The construction is expected to start in 2019 and should be completed by 2020.
