Government’s Loud Silence, Moves Akere Muna to Plead for Release of Idabato D.O.

Yaoundé: International lawyer, Barrister Akere Muna has penned a sorrowful message to the kidnappers of Ewane Roland, Divisional Officer for Idabato, calling on them to release him. In a statement posted on his social media platforms, Barrister Akere Muna urged those holding the D.O hostage to consider the effects of such an act on a human being.

According to Cameroon News Agency, Barrister Akere Muna emphasized the human cost of the kidnapping, urging the abductors to consider the sorrow being endured by Mr. Ewane’s family. He further highlighted the potential for healing and understanding that could arise from the safe return of the D.O. “By releasing Mr. Ewane, you would not only demonstrate compassion but also take a step towards fostering a more human and just society,” Akere Muna stated.

Akere Muna’s plea comes amid an ongoing social media campaign that includes a recent video of the D.O. pleading for help. The administrator has been missing since his abduction on October 1, 2024, from his home. Famil
y sources have disclosed that the kidnappers are allegedly demanding over half a billion FCFA as ransom.

The situation is particularly dire for the family, as Mrs. Rose Ewane told Cameroon News Agency that the government has refused to negotiate with what they classify as terrorists. Initially, the ransom demanded was five million USD, which was later reduced to 700,000 USD, but the family still finds it unaffordable, leaving them in a state of despair.
