Govt Beefs Up Security In Kimana

The Loitoktok Sub County Security Committee has committed to beefing up security following a spate of insecurity causing a major concern among the area residents.

This comes after boda boda operators in Kimana last week staged a demonstration at the Kimana police station with the body of a colleague who was killed after being robbed of his motorcycle.

The committee, led by Deputy County Commissioner Antony Maina, said police night patrols would be conducted in order to bring security in the area.

Maina said the insecurity in Kimana and its environs not only affected the bodaboda operators but was also negatively affecting businesses.

During the session with the committee, the bodaboda operators blamed the motorcycle lending companies for colluding with culprits in stealing their motorcycles since they never follow up on the matter when reported and they never demand payment of loans later.

The operators also requested that the security personnel to close down all video dens, terming them as breeding spot
s for robbery.

They noted that in those video dens and muguka bases, idlers spent the whole day there, then engaged in robbery at night.

They also called upon the residents with farms or househelps to have their details recorded as a way of identifying strangers among them.

While responding to their grievances in Kimana town, the Deputy County Commissioner urged the bodaboda operators to establish a structured leadership with which the security personnel could work with to contain the insecurity.

He also assured them that the security apparatus would enhance surveillance on people visiting the area from outside the subcounty so as to ensure all law-abiding citizens were protected while those with evil intent were arrested and prosecuted.

The boda boda operators promised to cooperate with area security personnel to contain insecurity.
