Groundbreaking ceremony held to mark the construction of Mini Soccer Pitch at Résidence La Chaux

A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a mini soccer pitch at Résidence La Chaux in Mahebourg, was held, yesterday, in the presence of the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, the Minister of Youth Employment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Christophe Stephane Toussaint, and the Chief Government Whip, Mr Rameswar Doolub.

The project, funded to the tune of some Rs 7 million, will include a mini soccer pitch measuring 21 metres by 12 metres, a pétanque court, and a boundary wall. It will also feature landscaping and the installation of benches, creating an inviting space for community engagement and recreation.

In his address, Minister Hurreeram spoke about the critical importance of this long-anticipated project, noting that it will offer children and youngsters a convenient venue to practise football. He also outlined the broader developmental goals for the region, highlighting initiatives such as the MUGA facility in Beau Vallon. On this no
te, Mr Hurreeram reaffirmed Government’s dedication to serving the best interests of the population, striving to ensure that every corner of Mauritius is endowed with quality amenities and robust infrastructure.

As for Minister Toussaint, he stressed Government’s vision of establishing comprehensive sports infrastructure throughout Mauritius, recalling that in 2018, the National Sport and Physical Activity Policy was launched. This policy is designed to encourage individuals to engage in physical activities, thereby promoting better health, and it also underscores the nation’s strong commitment to the importance of sports, he added. Additionally, he reassured that by providing accessible facilities for sports, Government aims to inspire youngsters to pursue athletic activities, helping them avoid negative influences.

For his part, Mr Doolub stated that various developments across different sectors in Mauritius have been implemented to improve the quality of life of people of all ages. He particularly pointe
d out the numerous sports activities available for youngsters, which are aimed at encouraging them to adopt a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
