Following the resignation of Her Excellency Mrs Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, G.C.S.K., C.S.K., PhD., DSc, His Excellency Mr Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory, G.O.S.K., Vice-President, has, today 23 March 2018, assumed the office of the President of the Republic.

Section 28(7) of the Constitution of Mauritius provides, inter alia, that where the office of the President is vacant, or the President is for any other reason unable to perform the functions of his office, those functions shall be performed by the Vice-President.
