Health Track inaugurated in Coromandel

A 400-metre health track, to the tune of Rs 6,889,500, was inaugurated, on Sunday 22 September 2024, at Chapman’s View in Coromandel, in line with the vision of the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change for a cleaner and greener Mauritius.

The Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Mrs Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo; the Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Mr Kavydass Ramano; and other personalities were also present at the inauguration ceremony.

In a statement, Mrs Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo recalled Government efforts to offer a range of sports facilities accessible to all with a view of encouraging citizens to engage in physical activity for better health and wellness. She invited inhabitants of the region to come together with their family and enjoy some leisure time.

For his part, the Environment Minister urged residents to be responsible and make the most of the health track amenities while preserving the natural be
auty of the area.

The objective of the health track is to encourage people living in the vicinity to practise regular physical activities in a natural environment and to help improve their physical and mental health. Several amenities are available at the health track including a picnic table; 10 recycled plastic benches; a kiosk; and 25 five solar lamps

It is noted that the Municipal Council of Beau Bassin – Rose Hill will take over the maintenance of the health track, along with all its amenities.
