Addis Ababa: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Executive Secretary, Workneh Gebeyehu, extended congratulations to Taye Atske-Selassie on his inauguration as the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
Taye Atske-Selassie, formerly the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has been appointed as president of Ethiopia following Sahle-Work Zewde’s end of tenure as president of Ethiopia since 2018.
The Executive Secretary acknowledged the contributions of Sahle-Work Zewde in advancing Ethiopia’s interests and fostering regional cooperation, according to a press release it issued today.
IGAD also expressed appreciation for her service and dedication to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the wider region.
As Taye has undertaken the responsibilities of the presidency, IGAD reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining and enhancing cooperation with Ethiopia on matters of mutual interest, particularly in the areas of regional integration, peace, and development.
