Bomet Governor Hillary Barchock’s administration has announced a successful partnership with both the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) and the Kenya Red Cross in supporting farmers in Nogirwet, Chebunyo ward, Chepalungu Sub County.
This collaboration has brought in both financial and technical support to the farmers in the region, with a particular focus on promoting the production of Angaza variety beans and other crops.
Governor Barchok expressed his appreciation for the invaluable assistance provided by KALRO and the Kenya Red Cross in enhancing the agricultural sector in Bomet County. He emphasized the importance of the demonstration farm set up in Nogirwet, which serves as a learning platform for farmers to adopt best practices in crop production.
During a recent visit to the farm by a team of officers from the County Agriculture Department and representatives from the partnering organizations, it was evident that the Angaza Variety beans were thriving well and were expec
ted to yield significant returns. This variety is not only highly nutritious but also promises to provide farmers with a source of income, thereby improving their livelihoods.
The partnership between the County Government of Bomet, KALRO, and the Kenya Red Cross is crucial for the farmers in the area as it offers them access to high-quality seedlings at an affordable price of Ksh 2 per seedling. Additionally, farmers are receiving training and extension services to enhance their knowledge and skills in crop production and land preparation.
Barchok highlighted the significance of this partnership in empowering farmers to adopt modern farming techniques and technologies, ultimately leading to increased productivity and income generation.
He commended the efforts of all involved parties in fostering agricultural development in Bomet County and emphasized the need for continuous support and collaboration to sustain the progress made.
