Over 300 students of Marigat Boys High School in Baringo South Sub-County trekked t40 kiliometer to the Baringo county headquarters to protest sale of water in the school noting that it was affecting hygiene standards. Baringo County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa while addressing the students, who arrived at his Kabarnet office grounds, Baringo central sub-county, Tuesday, after trekking 40km starting midnight and assured them that their grievances would be addressed without any victimization. ‘We are here for you and we want to assure you that whatever issues you will raise will be sorted out as soon as possible so that normalcy can return to the school,’ Kutwa said. Kutwa encouraged the students to work hard in their studies as they had limited time in school to finish their secondary education and be responsible citizens. A student who spoke anonymously said that the level of hygiene in the school was wanting since there was no water, noting that the school cooks were using unclean cooking utensils thus posing a health risk. The student added that there was discrimination as the form one students were made to wash the dining hall and dormitories during class time thus demoralizing them. On studies, one student noted that the school library lacked some revision papers that rendered them disadvantaged as they were preparing for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in October. The students were ferried back to school with an assurance that their grievances would be addressed as soon as possible.
