Mauritius to host International Conference on Digitalisation and Sustainable Tourism

Mauritius will host an international Conference focusing on the challenges and opportunities of digitalisation for the global tourism industry on 23 and 24 May 2018 at Le Meridien Hotel in Pointe aux Piments. The opening ceremony of the Conference will be held in presence of the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, and other eminent personalities.

The Conference on the theme Digitalisation and Sustainable Tourism will provide an important platform for various stakeholders to showcase their drive for the sustainable development of the tourism industry. It is being organised by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority and the Tourism Authority.

Some 300 local and international stakeholders including Ministers, high level policy makers, academics, researches and experts are attending the Conference following which a declaration will be adopted.

The participants will have the opportunity to present case studies on several topics relating to technology transformation and tourism; redefining destination marketing strategy in the digital era; challenges to the digitalisation of the tourism sector; tourism and the Sustainable Development Goals; enhancing destination competitiveness through technology and innovation; fostering sustainable tourism development in the digital era; and future orientation of the tourism industry, amongst others.

The Conference will also comprise an exhibition on the different sustainable initiatives adopted for the greening of Mauritian tourism industry and an award ceremony dedicated to the contributors of the tourism sector.

In the margins of the Conference, a coral planting ceremony will also be held at the jetty of Beachcomber Golf Resort and Spa, Trou aux Biches.
