Migori County has provided 20 motorcycles to ward agricultural extension officers to help address their mobility challenges and enhance their agricultural services.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony at Kabubu-Wasweta II Ward in Suna West Sub County, Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko said that the extension service officers play a crucial role in providing agricultural services to the county’s farmers.
Ochilo explained that the initiative symbolised his unwavering commitment to bolstering agricultural outreach, ensuring that extension officers can effortlessly traverse remote regions to enhance agricultural productivity for every farmer.
He, however, urged the county farmers to utilise the services provided by the extension officials who are present in all 40 wards.
‘I am calling upon farmers of our great county to utilise the good climate and our fertile soils to continue producing milk, rice, bananas, and chicken to reduce importation of the same,’ said Ochilo.
He noted that by utilising the extension
service officers, farmers will be able to utilise the skills and agricultural knowledge to enable them to produce more and make the county’s food secure.
Ochilo also issued a Sh20 million Cheque to 20 different farmers Sacco’s, an initiative that was supported by the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) to boost their agricultural production and generate wealth for Sacco individuals.
The governor said that his administration will continue to empower farmers in cooperatives and Saccos for social economic development with the aim of reducing poverty and creating more job opportunities.
He added that the financial assistance through the NAVCDP will not just foster financial resilience but also drive the collective vision of improved agricultural productivity and enrich livelihoods across the county.
Ochilo also encouraged farmers to join Sacco’s and cooperatives to empower themselves economically and access grants and other benefits to boost and grow value chain productivity.
The S
acco’s also received various computers, printers, fireproof office cabinets, tables, and chairs to enable them to operationalise their officers and keep their records to date.
