Minister Padayachy inaugurates refurbished DBM Head Office

The Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy, inaugurated, this morning in Port Louis, the refurbished head office of the Development Bank of Mauritius Ltd (DBM). An inauguration plate was also unveiled on this occasion.

The Chairman of the DBM, Dr Jairajsing Luchoo; the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the DBM, Mr Jaywant Pandoo; as well as other personalities were also present at the event.

In his address, Minister Padayachy highlighted that this ceremony bears testimony to the important role that the DBM plays in supporting the socio-economic development of the country. He indicated that banks such as the DBM provide the necessary financial support which fuels the projects of many entrepreneurs, owners of small businesses and economic operators.

He underlined that in the recent years the DBM has engaged in a proximity policy and has opened three new branches to expand its coverage across the country. In addition, he outlined, the DBM has also opened new parks for
Small and Medium Enterprises in order to offer them a better working environment. According to him, the refurbishment of its head office symbolises DBM’s commitment to be at the service and as close as possible to the Mauritians.

Furthermore, Dr Padayachy underscored that Government has been and will continue to be committed to supporting the spirit of entrepreneurship as well as recognise the importance of creating an environment conducive to innovation, growth and development.

Entrepreneurs are the engines of job creation and of the country’s economic resilience, and this is why Government is enhancing its efforts to help the entrepreneur community through various initiatives, he stated.

On this note, the Finance Minister dwelt on a series of key measures introduced by Government which aim at providing financial assistance to economic operators in various sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, technology and green energy.

As for DBM’s Chairman, he underlined that the event does not only re
present the refurbishment of the DBM but also the bank’s commitment to continue to stand as a pillar of development and progress for the Republic of Mauritius. This refurbishment, he stated, reflects the ability of the DBM to adapt so as to meet the needs of a changing world, and still provide adequate services to its customers efficiently.

For his part, DBM’s CEO recalled that the bank played a crucial role in keeping Small and Medium Enterprises afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also spoke about the achievements and expansion of the DBM, in addition to providing details about various loan schemes offered by the bank to reduce the country’s carbon footprint and ensure a sustainable future.
