Musokoto FC from Nambale Sub County has made a big stride in its bid to emerge winners of the Busia County Zone A league, which is on the homestretch.
Musokoto, which is making its second appearance in the county league, showed their intentions clear last weekend when they silenced Aboloi FC 2-0 before their partisan fans at Aboloi primary school, in Teso North Sub County.
They made sure of clinching three crucial points with goals from Silver Okello and Godfrey Wanzala that has boosted their chances of winning the zonal title that has drawn teams from Teso South Sub County, Teso North and parts of Nambale Sub County.
The Club has remained unbeaten since June 1, 2023, when they lost 1-2 to Kamolo away at Kamolo primary school. Their subsequent matches have either ended in draws or victories.
Musokoto appears to be having more impressive away performances than when they play at home. On June 18th, 2023, they stunned FC Machakusi 2-0 at Machakusi primary school and Aboloi FC last weekend.
The impressive performance has seen them top the league with 52 points from 22 matches and with only four matches to the end of the season.
Kifaru from Kodedema in Teso South has amassed 48 points from a similar number of matches.
With the unfolding scenario, Musokoto needs three victories from their remaining matches to be crowned new champions after Obucuun from Teso South, which has virtually been promoted to division 2 clinching the inaugural title last season.
Musokoto, which is under a new patron Mr. Denis Odongo, has two away matches to Moding and Kifaru with a similar number of home matches against Kamuriai and Katakwa. Kifaru, with four points behind leaders, Musokoto will need to win all their remaining matches to get the zonal league title.
The battle for position three is between Kekalet, Kamolo, and Kabkara. Kekalet is third with 39 points, Kamolo has a similar number of points but has played one match less than Kifaru. Kabkara lies fourth with 37 points from 21 matches. Any of the three teams can secure position three depending on their striking abilities.
In Zone A matches last weekend, Kifaru and Katelenyang drew 1-1, Katakwa and Kamolo settled for a goalless draw, Boca Junior beat Akobwait 3-2 while Kekalet trounced Kiriko 3-1.
The youthful Teens of Hope from Nambale Sub County is topping Zone B with 32 points from 13 matches, the same number of points with Labour FC, which is ranked second due to inferior goal difference. They have played one match more than the current leaders.
In Zone B action last weekend, Mabale United beat Young Tigers 2-0, Bumala were beaten 2-0 by visiting Nasewa while Murende Highlanders drew 1-1 with Khwilare FC.
In Zone A, Dan Kibet of Kabkara FC, Philemon Ekudam of Kifaru, and Silas Ouma, a form three student at St Joseph’s Musokoto Secondary and plays for Musokoto FC, are joint top scorers with 10 goals each. In Zone B, Rawlings Keriako of Teens of Hope is topping the chart with six goals to his credit. His club mate Job Ouma and Longinus Barasa of Labour FC are joint second with five goals each.
