The Ministry of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives will, in the context of celebrations of the 50 years of Independence of Mauritius, organise a National Cooperatives Fair at Montagne Blanche Village Council from Friday 02 March to Sunday 04 March 2018. The Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, will proceed to the official launching of the fair for cooperatives.
The Minister of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, Mr Soomilduth Bholah, made this announcement yesterday during a press conference held in Port-Louis.
He highlighted that the holding of the National Cooperatives Fair will mark the huge contribution of the cooperative sector in the socio-economic development of Mauritius for the past 105 years. He pointed out that it is an opportune time to celebrate the rich history of the cooperatives movement in the country and to pay tribute to the sacrifices and hard work of cooperators.
Minister Bholah underscored that the future of the cooperative sector in Mauritius is still bright adding that the sector is currently generating a turnover of some Rs 5.5 billion and contributing to job creation. He emphasised that the Fair will offer a platform for cooperators to showcase their products and services and at the same time increase their visibility on several markets.
He underpinned that on the same occasion the Strategic Plan 2018-2020 for the cooperative sector will be outlined. Minister Bholah invited the public to visit the Fair and make the most of the locally manufactured goods.
The Fair is expected to gather some 300 exhibitors both from Mauritius and Rodrigues. A huge variety of products will be displayed for sale comprising handicraft, agricultural products, spices, textile and jewellery among others.
