Nyali MP Vows To Champion BETA

Nyali Member of Parliament (MP), Mohammed Ali, has vowed to push ahead with initiatives meant to empower women economically across the Mombasa region, undeterred by hostility from other elected leaders.

The Legislator said during a women’s empowerment event at Mwembe Tayari, Mvita Constituency, on Sunday, that he won’t abandon the initiative because women are the fulcrums of society.

During the event, the MP disbursed Sh100,000 each to Khairunnisaa and CH Unit Women groups, respectively, to bolster their water selling and poultry ventures.

The only elected MP of the ruling party, UDA, noted that the Head of State gave him the nod to traverse every nook and cranny of the coastal City, to empower women in business.

He stated that this is evident in the events that government officials attend, as he is implementing the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The MP has so far visited Kisauni, Jomvu, Likoni, and Nyali constituencies, and he has so far disbursed Sh3 million to women groups.

Various
women groups have been provided with capital to purchase tents, chairs, utensils, posho mills, and tanks to either start or boost their existing business ventures.

‘I met a women’s group in Mirimani, Kisauni Constituency, who informed me they needed tents and chairs because in Mirimani meetings are held under a mango tree,’ said Ali.

A women’s group in Likoni was given capital to start a leso retail business, and their rent for the shop was paid by the MP.

‘We will traverse this County. We will empower these women. Our main goal is to give you capital to uplift your livelihoods,’ stated Ali.
