NYAHURURU: Ol Joorok Secondary School emerged victorious in a thrilling football match against Kahuho Secondary School, winning 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw during the Nyandarua County zones ball games held at Nyahururu Stadium over the weekend.
According to Kenya News Agency, the games also highlighted Ruiru Secondary School’s dominant 5-0 victory over Ndaragwa Girls in girls’ football, while in netball, Ndaragwa Girls outperformed Raichiri Girls with 22 sets to 16. In boys’ volleyball, Kambaa Secondary retained its champion status by defeating Githunguchu Secondary School 3-0 sets. Meanwhile, Ngaindeithia Secondary triumphed over Githunguchu Secondary with a 3-1 set victory in girls’ volleyball.
The events began on Friday with preliminary rounds, advancing to the semi-finals. In boys’ volleyball, Kambaa Secondary secured a 3-0 win against Kanguu Secondary, and Githunguchu Secondary overcame Ngaindeithia Secondary 3-2 in girls’ volleyball. In the girls’ volleyball semi-finals, Githunguchu Secondary defeated defending champion Gatimu Girls 3-1, while Weru Secondary faced off against Ngaindeithia Secondary, resulting in Ngaindeithia’s victory with 3-2 sets. Ngaindeithia then bested Githunguchu to claim the win.
In football semi-finals, Kahuho Secondary edged out defending champion Ol Bollosat Secondary 1-0. Ol Joorok secured a 1-0 victory over Gideon Elite Boys Centre to face Kahuho in the finals, where they emerged victorious. In the girls’ semi-final football games, Ruiru Secondary defeated Ol Joorok 4-0, while Ndaragwa Girls overcame defending champion Murichu Girls 2-0, only to be beaten 5-0 by Ruiru Secondary in the finals.
Mr. James Kihara, Secretary of the Nyandarua North Secondary Schools Association, expressed his appreciation for the teams and organizers involved in the ball games. He explained that Nyandarua County’s ball games are divided into three zones: Zone A includes Nyandarua South Sub County, Kipipiri, and Kinangop Sub counties; Zone B encompasses Mirangine, Nyandarua Central, and Wanjohi Sub counties; and Zone C covers Nyandarua North, Nyandarua West, Aberdare, and Gathanji Sub Counties.
Mr. Kihara noted that the second-term ball games feature volleyball, football, rugby sevens, netball, and basketball 3 by 3, while the first term includes athletics, handball, regular basketball, hockey, and rugby 15. The winners and first runners-up will advance to the County finals, set to take place next weekend at Nyahururu Stadium.
