President Roopun hails collaboration between Mauritius and Japan

The friendly relations as well as diplomatic and economic ties between Japan and Mauritius were the focus of the keynote address of the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, yesterday, during the 60th anniversary celebrations of Toyota Mauritius at the Head Office of the car dealership in Riche Terre.

The Vice-President of the Republic, Mr Marie Cyril Eddy Boissézon; the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mauritius, Mr Masahiro Kan; the Representative of Toyota Tsusho Corporation and CFAO France, Mr Tsutomu Akutsu; the Managing Director of Toyota (Mauritius) Ltd, Mr Arvind Issur; and other eminent personalities were present at the event.

In his speech, President Roopun highlighted that Mauritius was indeed very appreciative of Japanese efforts to strengthen cooperation, both Government to Business, and Business to Business, for the mutual benefits of the two countries. “Following the opening of the Embassy of Japan in Mauritius in 2017, our friendly relatio
ns have been elevated to even higher level,” he affirmed.

According to the President, the presence of Toyota, one of the world’s largest automakers in Mauritius, reflected the strong partnership between Japan and Mauritius, that dated back to the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1968. “Japan’s dedication to innovation aligns perfectly with the aspirations of Mauritius to grow and prosper as a nation,” he said.

The President also paid tribute to Toyota Mauritius, which had expanded to become an essential partner of the economy. “Indeed, Toyota vehicles today are an integral part of Mauritian life, serving individuals, families, and businesses with reliability and efficiency,” he pointed out. He further commended the Company for its commitment to quality, durability, performance, environmental sustainability, and women empowerment.
