Schools Turns Man’s Home Into CBC, Environment Safety Centre

A man in Nandi has stunned his villagers after converting plastic waste sourced from supermarkets to construct and decorate his home.

Micah Yator who was little known in his Koisagat village is now attracting visitors from different parts of the country to see his talent for recycling used plastic waste into useful materials.

Yator says he has spent several years collecting used plastic materials in Kapsabet town before moving them to Koisagat in O’lessos.

The village home is now a resort for Koisagat residents who spend their time when they are stressed because the home has been decorated with flowers of different types.

‘Micah has turned his home into a resort and is now attracting visitors from different parts of the country. Koisagat villagers are key beneficiaries here,’ Madam Leah Leting told the KNA team who visited his home.

Madam Leting revealed that Competence Based Curriculum pupils in neighboring primary schools have found Yator’s home beneficial since upon visiting the home are taught how used materials can be turned into useful items in our homes.

‘As a teacher, we get most of our CBC learning materials for learners in this home. Pupils from Sochei, Kaplelach, and Koisagat Primary Schools always visit this home during their practical and get those materials for free,’ Leting added.

She noted that Micah collects used materials from their village and reuses them to beautify his home and villagers now refer to him as their ‘champion of the environment’.

Furthermore, Micah, who is a local church caretaker, has used his skills to decorate his local church according to the neighbors.

They say worshipers stay in a decorated environment and Koisagat villagers are now thanking Yator for extending his services to them.

She proposed proper landscaping and expansion of the compound so that it becomes a village resort known for environmental safety using local materials.

Asked how he has managed to collect used material enough for his compound, Yator says his patience and resilience have enabled him to reach where he is.

He has spent several years collecting used plastic waste from supermarkets to decorate his house and build his toilet kitchen, resting room, and entire compound.

‘I always think about how I can make my home more beautiful and environment friendly using simple and available materials around us,’ says Micah.

Yator, who has been described by his villagers as coming from a humble background, has demonstrated his ability to convert used materials to ensure our environment remains clean, safe, and productive.
