Shabana Beat MCF FC To Retain Top Spot In NSL

Shabana Football Club have extended their lead in the FKF National Super League after beating Mully Children’s Family (MCF) 3-1 in a thrilling match at Gusii stadium on Wednesday.

The match which had been postponed due to bad weather experienced on Tuesday afternoon, was played in an early kick-off with thousands of Shabana supporters thronging the stadium to support their team.

Shabana took an early lead in the 10th minute through Isaac Otieno, forcing MCF to respond with an equalizer from John Ochieng who scored just before the halftime break.

The second half began with Shabana searching for an instant response and in the 71st minute, they were awarded a penalty following a handball offense in the penalty box by the opponent.

Shabana’s goalkeeper Mustafa Oduor stepped up and restored the home team’s lead before Nehemiah Onchiri scored the third goal in added time to seal the three points for the hosts.

The victory saw them retain their position at the top of the table with 70 points followed by Murang’a Seal who have a game in hand, with 64 points.

Despite the challenging playing surface due to the ongoing heavy rains, Shabana Head Coach, Sammy Okoth praised his team for their outstanding performance and ability to stay focused after a postponed game.

Okoth said they are shifting their attention to the next match against Murang’a Seal adding that they are at a significant stage in the competition.

On the other hand, MCF Coach, David Maina noted that the slippery pitch had affected their game plan while at the same time acknowledging Shabana’s strength as a team.

Maina lauded his team for their perseverance saying that he is hoping for a turnaround in their fortunes when they face Gusii FC on Sunday at Camp Toyoyo in Nairobi.

Shabana will face Murang’a Seal in a match expected to be a title showdown at St. Sebastian Park in Murang’a on Sunday.
