Trade and investment: Minister Gobin meets US Prosper Africa delegation to discuss strategic partnerships

The Attorney General, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Maneesh Gobin, received, this morning, a delegation from the United States (US) led by the Coordinator of Prosper Africa, Mrs British Robinson, accompanied by the Ambassador of the US of America to the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Henry Jardine, at his office, in Port Louis.

The courtesy call was followed by a working session in which both parties reiterated their commitment to enhancing existing bilateral relations and boosting cooperation in key areas.

In her address, Ms Robinson emphasised that Prosper Africa is focused on attracting and increasing private sector investments in trade across the continent. She pointed out that Mauritius is uniquely positioned to play a pivotal role in this effort, not only contributing to the global economy but also facilitating Africa’s broader growth. Highlighting the significance of Mauritius in this context, she stated that the country’s strategic advantages could help bo
lster its economic influence. She believes that through collaboration, Mauritius can help unlock new opportunities for investment and development across Africa.

For his part, Ambassador Jardine outlined the substantial role that Prosper Africa can play in Mauritius, stressing the country’s strategic position as a gateway for various nations. He praised Mauritius for its stable democracy, noting that it possesses the right conditions and connectivity to facilitate meaningful partnerships. Mr Jardine further asserted that these attributes make Mauritius an invaluable ally for the US as it seeks to deepen its engagement in Africa and explore collaborative initiatives across the continent.
