Eldoret: Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii has hosted the U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, in efforts to reinforce the county’s aspirations for economic growth through global partnership. Speaking at the county headquarters, the U.S. Ambassador applauded the county’s accomplishments and for becoming the 5th city in Kenya.
According to Kenya News Agency, Uasin Gishu is exhibiting exceptional vision and growth in agriculture, green energy, and manufacturing. On agriculture, discussions were held on specific crops with high economic potential like avocados, potatoes, and pyrethrum, which is the number one ingredient in organic pesticides and is in demand globally. The Ambassador expressed excitement about manufacturing, highlighting that the textile industry has significant growth potential and currently employs over 2,000 people in Uasin Gishu.
The Ambassador added that the manufacturing sector, with investments potentially reaching close to a million dollars, and the focus on cotton fabric are posi
tioned to help the textile industry grow and employ more people. The U.S. Embassy will also focus on infrastructure and housing development to enhance economic growth. Clean cooking and green energy are identified as additional opportunities for Uasin Gishu, aligning with environmental conservation efforts.
Governor Bii emphasized the strong partnership between the county and the United States, which supports mutual growth and development. Uasin Gishu is promoted as a premier destination for business, investment, tourism, and sports, with agriculture as the foundation of its economy. The county’s farmers are diversifying their produce, and with U.S. support, they aim to expand access to the U.S. market.
The governor highlighted Uasin Gishu’s strategic location, favourable climate, and investment-friendly environment as ideal for new and expanding ventures. Discussions included topics such as agriculture for food security, technology transfer, training, research, and development, with plans to partner with U
.S. universities to drive economic growth. Bii invited U.S. investors, emphasizing the county’s supportive business climate and commitment to sustainable development.
