Ouagadougou: On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Chad’s independence, the Chadian community residing in Burkina Faso marked the event with a gesture of solidarity towards the Burkinabe people. Responding to the call of President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, the community donated two tons of cement and packets of water to the Faso Mªbo presidential initiative.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Yangolb© Kagonb©, president of the Chadian community in Burkina Faso, explained that this donation is part of the activities of the 48 hours of Chadian independence in Burkina Faso. In addition to the donation, the Chadian diaspora undertook some work on the Faso Mªbo site to support its workers.
The independence festivities include a community dinner planned for August 16, as well as a VIP cocktail party organized by the embassy. Yangolb© Kagonb© invited other foreign communities living in Burkina Faso to emulate this example, emphasizing the gratitude towards their host country.
During the donation presentation, Mahamat Saleh Adoum, the Chadian ambassador to Burkina Faso, Togo, and Benin, highlighted the historical significance of August 11, 1960, when Chad gained independence. He commended the solidarity and unity of the Chadian community in Burkina Faso, emphasizing the deep ties between the two nations.
The ambassador remarked on the cultural and historical connections, noting that 11 towns share the same name in Chad and Burkina Faso, reinforcing the notion of being one people.
