Djibo: The people of Soum province mobilized strongly on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Djibo town hall to express their gratitude to the highest authorities of the country, following the erection of Soum into a region, a decision taken by the Council of Ministers on July 2.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Djibo town hall served as the setting for a grand recognition ceremony initiated by the people of Soum province. All walks of life, without distinction, gathered to express their gratitude to the national authorities, following the elevation of Soum into a fully-fledged region.
Traditional authorities, religious leaders, women’s and youth representatives took turns speaking to welcome this historic decision. They thanked the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, and his government for this mark of attention and consideration shown to the Soum.
During the ceremony, an official letter of thanks, signed by all the customary and religious chiefdoms of the province, was presented to the High Commissioner of Soum. He expressed his satisfaction at seeing the unity and resilience of the population and reassured that the message will be faithfully transmitted to its recipient.
Religious leaders, for their part, offered prayers and blessings for a united and peaceful Burkina Faso, where social cohesion and coexistence remain core values. Participants also emphasized the importance of this regional establishment, which paves the way for better institutional anchoring and more development opportunities for the entire population.
The event, marked by speeches filled with emotion and hope, was seen as a new page in the history of Soum. For many, it is a turning point that recognizes not only the province’s uniqueness, but also the efforts and sacrifices made by its inhabitants to preserve their dignity and unity despite the multiple security and social challenges.
