Solid Foundations Ensure City’s Continued Forward Momentum, Says Mayor Adanech

Addis ababa: Mayor Adanech Abiebie stated that a city built on a solid foundation will continue to progress, and its forward momentum cannot be stopped.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Mayor Adanech Abiebie affirmed that a city built on a solid foundation will inevitably progress, and its forward momentum is unstoppable. Speaking at a “Resilience Day” event, held under the national motto “Firm Foundation for a Resilient Nation,” the mayor emphasized that resilience is the cornerstone of national strength.

The mayor explained that this motto signifies that a resilient nation can withstand temporary challenges, never lose hope, and ultimately prevail. She highlighted Ethiopia’s long history of resilience, pointing to the bravery of ancestors in the battles of Adwa and Maychew and the enduring spirit of Ethiopian athletes on the international stage.

Adanech emphasized that this same perseverance is evident in more recent achievements, most notably the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). She described the completion of GERD as a prime example of Ethiopia’s resilience. “Despite being placed on the agenda of the UN Security Council 13 times, and despite facing both internal and external challenges,” she noted, the dam was completed.

The mayor stressed that this accomplishment, achieved through leadership and the collective determination of the people, proved Ethiopia’s resilience to the world. Mayor Adanech also highlighted Addis Ababa’s transformation as a living example of this culture of resilience. Since the 2017 Ethiopian fiscal year, the city has undergone a radical redevelopment that has attracted global attention.

According to the mayor, major improvements in areas such as corridor and riverbank development, revenue collection, and peace and security were not easily achieved. “These results were realized through resilience, the active participation of millions of residents, and the coordinated leadership of the city,” she stressed.
