Ouagadougou: The “Young Peacemakers” Association, in collaboration with the Tin Laa Initiative Association, launched the second edition of its public conference in Ouagadougou. The event, themed “Living together and social cohesion: Keys to lasting peace in Burkina Faso,” was organized as a prelude to the International Day of Peace, celebrated annually in September.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Hermann Guingane, president of the Young Peacemakers Association, emphasized the importance of dialogue in deconstructing prejudices and recognizing the aspirations of others. Speaking at the conference, Guingane highlighted that exchange is the first step towards reconciliation, as it underscores the shared humanity that transcends divisions. He also noted that peace is not an abstract concept but is built through concrete actions.
The conference featured discussions on various sub-themes, including “Religions, traditions and social cohesion: what synergies to strengthen living together?” led by Imam Alidou Ilboudo, coordinator of the Islamic Cultural Center of Burkina. Ilboudo stressed that social cohesion requires collective effort regardless of community differences, advocating for collaboration among all initiatives and actors. He pointed out that religion and traditions should serve as grounds for enrichment, conveying values and virtues that can build a solid foundation for peace.
Abdoulazize Bamogo, Strategy and Communications Advisor and former President of the Higher Council for Communication, addressed the role of media and civil society organizations in peacebuilding. Bamogo urged citizens to support media and CSOs in their efforts to promote peace, combat hate speech, and fight online disinformation. He emphasized the need for responsible use of social media to strengthen social cohesion and foster a constructive community dialogue.
El Hadj Sayouba Traore, the conference sponsor, called on young people to unite and contribute to the nation’s development. He remarked that peace is essential for progress, urging everyone to do their part in building a peaceful Burkina Faso.
