Africa No Filter Announces Formation of Inaugural Council to Amplify African Narratives

Port louis: Africa No Filter (ANF) today announced the formation of its inaugural Council, comprising eight distinguished leaders from various sectors, including media, finance, philanthropy, law, advocacy, and research. This marks a significant transition for the organization as it becomes an independent, African-led entity registered in Mauritius, following five years as a U.S.-based project.

According to African Press Organization, the ANF Council unites individuals who have excelled in their respective fields and are admired by Moky Makura, Executive Director of Africa No Filter, for their dedication to the continent. Makura emphasizes the importance of narratives, stating that they shape everything from policy and reputation to investment and opportunity. The formation of this Council represents a new era of independence for ANF, strengthening its governance and strategic direction. The Council members are committed to ensuring that Africa tells its own, more truthful story.

Over the past five years, Africa No Filter has invested more than US$7.5 million in the African creative and media ecosystem. The organization supports storytellers, researchers, and platforms that challenge reductive portrayals of the continent. Its work has attracted influential funders, including the Gates Foundation and the Mastercard Foundation, alongside founding supporters like the Ford Foundation, Luminate, and the Hilton, Hewlett, and Mellon Foundations.

The newly established Council will serve as a strategic sounding board and leadership body, enhancing governance, accelerating impact, and expanding ANF’s reach across the continent and beyond. The members of the 2025 Africa No Filter Council include Richard Addy, Nousrath Bhugeloo, Yacine Djibo, Ferdinand Mokete, Fran§oise Moudouthe, Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard, Anshi Saminaden, and Natasha Kofoworola Quist. Each member brings a unique perspective, united by the conviction that Africa’s story must be told more fully and fairly by Africans themselves.

Council member Yacine Djibo emphasizes the need for future narratives to reflect the reality of Africa as a continent of creativity, innovation, and possibility. Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard highlights the strategic importance of countering stereotypes to unlock investment and transform Africa’s economic prospects. Anshi Saminaden underscores the power of authentic storytelling to direct investment where it is most needed, while Nousrath Bhugeloo stresses the importance of strong governance in building resilient, African-led institutions.

With strengthened governance, expanded expertise, and a growing global presence, Africa No Filter’s transition to an independent entity represents more than just an organizational change. It signifies a new era in which Africa commands its own narrative, on its own terms.
