Emirates Expands Travel Rehearsals for Youth with Autism to 40 Cities Worldwide

Dubai: Emirates has successfully completed more than 40 travel rehearsals for youth with autism globally, benefiting over 250 families by easing travel anxiety. According to African Press Organization, the travel rehearsals are part of the airline's commitment to making air travel more accessible and comfortable for individuals with autism. These rehearsals allow children and young adults to practice airport procedures, empowering them to fly with greater confidence. The initiative began in Dubai and received positive feedback, prompting the Emirates Office of Accessibility and Inclusion to formalize the program and expand it across its global network. Since April 2025, the program has been implemented in cities such as Accra, Athens, Bali, Bangalore, and others across six continents. The rehearsals provide a real-time airport journey experience, including check-in, security, and boarding procedures. More than 35,000 Emirates staff have been trained to support customers with autism, ensuring a supportive environment during these rehearsals. Emirates collaborates closely with airport authorities and partners to facilitate these experiences, sometimes even arranging access to real aircraft for participants. Feedback from families and participants has been overwhelmingly positive. Parents, teachers, and young adults have praised the rehearsals for providing comfort and preparation, making air travel a more viable option for families with autistic members. Testimonials highlight the relief and empowerment felt by families, with many expressing gratitude for the attention to detail and support provided by Emirates. The airline plans to continue expanding the program throughout 2026, inviting more schools and centers to participate. Emirates also offers sensory products and fidget toys onboard and provides an Accessible and Inclusive Travel Hub on their website, offering resources and information to support neurodiverse travelers and their families.
