Ethiopia Commends China’s Role in International Mediation Efforts

Ethiopia has expressed its appreciation for China’s commitment to facilitating negotiations and mediations to foster a more peaceful, cooperative, and harmonious global order.

A briefing event of International Organization for Mediation (IOMed), which will be world’s first intergovernmental legal organization dedicated to the settlement of international disputes through mediation, held today in Addis Ababa.

IOMed is believed to become a global public good for rule of law that will provide a new platform for peaceful resolution of international disputes.

Speaking at the occasion, Director-General for Middle Eastern, Asian, and Pacific Countries’ Affairs at the Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Negus Kebede said this initiative represents a critical step toward fostering a more peaceful, cooperative, and harmonious global order.

As an active participant from the beginning, Ethiopia has signed the joint statement and engaged in every drafting session, reflecting its dedication to the goals o
f IOMed and a proactive role in shaping the future of international mediation, he added

Moreover, the director added that mediation is deeply rooted in Ethiopian culture, serving as a vital tool for resolving conflicts and maintaining harmony.

‘This cultural legacy strikes our belief in the transformative power of international relation as an important instrument for peace.’

Over the past years, Ethiopia has been fully engaged in the journey to establish international organization of mediation, he said, adding “Our history as a mediator in the horn of Africa and beyond speaks volumes.”

‘We have consistently facilitated dialogues and negotiations between neighboring nations, underscoring our commitment to peace, security and stability, both regionally and globally,’ he reaffirmed.

‘Together, let’s work to make mediation not just an option, but a cornerstone of global diplomacy.’

Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Ma Xinmin said Ethiopia has been a staunc
h supporter of China’s initiative to establish IMOed from the onset, playing active and constructive role in its creation and ongoing development.
