Fafi: Local leaders and residents in Fafi Constituency have expressed strong support for the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), urging its inclusion in the Constitution to protect it from legal and political disruptions. Participants in a public forum, held at the Fafi constituency member of parliament’s office, voiced their concerns regarding the potential vulnerability of the fund to external pressures.
According to Kenya News Agency, the forum was focused on the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill No. 4 of 2025, where attendees refuted claims that the NG-CDF fails to benefit grassroots communities. Abdirahman Ibrahim, a local official, emphasized the fund’s impact, particularly in education, security, climate change, and infrastructure, citing the initiation of a zero-fees program in several secondary schools.
Echoing these sentiments, Nuh Yusuf, a Fafi resident, highlighted the fund’s contributions to local communities, such as paying school fees, constructing dispensaries, and purchasing water trucks. Yusuf noted that most schools and over 90% of dispensaries in certain areas of Fafi were built using CDF resources. He also mentioned that the fund has financed education for over 500 students in universities and colleges, and supplied water trucks during droughts, which is crucial in the arid region.
The proposed bill aims to constitutionally entrench the CDF following a high court ruling on September 20 of the previous year, which deemed the current CDF Act unconstitutional. The court mandated that NG-CDF and its associated projects and activities must cease by June 30, 2026, allowing time for the completion of ongoing initiatives.
