Journalists Trained on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights in Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou: Around twenty journalists and communicators were equipped with knowledge on sexual and reproductive health rights at a workshop organized by the Action Community for the Promotion of Sexual and Reproductive Health in Burkina Faso (CAPSSR-BF) on Thursday. The event aimed to address gender inequalities and enhance access to health services in emergency situations.

According to Burkina Information Agency, CAPSSR-BF emphasized the importance of strengthening communication on gender inequalities and access to health services. The workshop sought to create a conducive environment for delivering quality care to vulnerable populations, particularly in terms of sexual and reproductive health.

Mariam Nonguierma, president of CAPSSR-BF, highlighted the role of journalists in conveying this critical information to the public and political leaders. The discussions at the workshop centered on gender-based violence, humanitarian crises, and access to care for affected populations, with a particular focus on the needs of girls and women.

Trainer Awa Yanogo explained that the workshop aimed to illustrate situations leading to gender inequality and to strategize on how to eliminate them. The participants were encouraged to raise awareness and influence decision-makers to integrate gender equality into emergency response policies.

The involvement of media professionals is crucial in advocating for sexual and reproductive health rights, as their journalistic efforts can drive policy changes and promote a more equitable health care system.
