Groundbreaking ceremony held for New Civic Hall in Morcellement Desplaces

A groundbreaking ceremony for the New Civic Hall in Morcellement Desplaces at Camp Carol was held, yesterday, in the presence of the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranath Sharma Hureeram; the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint; the Chief Government Whip, Mr Rameswar Doolub; Parliamentary Private Secretary; Ms Teenah Jutton; and the Chairman of Camp Carol Village Council, Mr Rakesh Kumar Foolchand. In a statement, Minister Hureeram underlined that this initiative is supported by the Government through the allocation of necessary funds to enhance the village, which was established following the closure of the Mon Désert Mon Trésor sugar factory. He further indicated that Omnicane has provided the land for the project, which already includes a mini-soccer pitch and will be expanded to feature a hall, playgrounds, and open gyms. The Minister averred that the project, costing approximately Rs 15 million, is expected to be completed within seven months. As for Mr Doolub, he reaffirmed the commitment to ongoing development in Desplaces, following the earlier inauguration of a mini-soccer pitch, and emphasised Government's pledge to improving the quality of life for residents through continued projects. This undertaking, he highlighted, aligns with the broader goal of enhancing regional and national quality of life and demonstrates the effort to meet the needs of the community and contribute to its overall well-being. About the project The Desplaces Integrated Leisure and Recreational Amenities Park project aims to establish a comprehensive recreational centre for the region. The first phase, completed in October 2023, involved the construction of a mini soccer pitch at a cost of Rs. 7.8 million and the development of the ground floor of a multipurpose hall, providing a 940 square foot area for socio-cultural activities. Future phases of the project will include a petanque court, outdoor gym equipment, and a jogging tra ck, with a total estimated cost of Rs. 20 million.
