With a view to promoting economic empowerment of women and encouraging the development and growth of women entrepreneurs, the National Women Entrepreneur Council (NWEC) organised, on Saturday 28 September 2024, a sales exhibition at the Riverside Shopping Mall in Rivière du Rempart. Present on the occasion, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Kalpana Devi Koonjoo-Shah, recalled that the NWEC was set up in 1999 with the key objective to provide assistance to women entrepreneurs while helping them to become autonomous. She indicated that currently there are more than 1,000 women registered in four sectors at the NWEC and are benefiting from various schemes. The sectors are namely: textile, artisanal, food processing, and services. As regards the exhibition, the Minister said that it aims to create public awareness on the various products and economic activities in which the women entrepreneurs are involved, assist them in widening their customer base, and increase visibility.
