Cité Atlee health track, funded by the Government of India to the tune of around Rs 2 million, was inaugurated, on Friday 27 September 2024, by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Housing and Land Use Planning, Minister of Tourism, Mr Steven Obeegadoo. The Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Mr Kavydass Ramano; the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Mr Soobeersingh Dhunoo; the High Commission of India Representative; and other personalities were present at the event. The Deputy Prime Minister, in his address, thanked the Government of India for its continuous support to Mauritius. The project is in line with Government's endeavour to encourage the public to practice regular physical activities. The health track, of 450 metres long, is set up in an area of 9,000m2, together with recycled plastic benches; four metal bins; and 27 solar led garden lamps. The Cité Atlee health track thus provides a designated space for the public to maintain a healthy lifestyle by enabling the m to practise activities such as walking and jogging in the natural environment. It is noted that the health track would be handed over to the Municipal Council of Curepipe for onward maintenance.
