Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga on Friday led an exercise in which bursary cheques were issued to 180 beneficiaries of the Governor’s Full Scholarship program.
The students in forms 2, 3 and 4 who hail from vulnerable backgrounds and scored above 350 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), will have their fees fully paid by the County Government for the four years they are in secondary school.
Speaking at his office during the function Kahiga said the program which he initiated in 2018 aligns with the county government’s agenda of ensuring that education is accessible to all citizens of Nyeri County.
‘Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today,’ Kahiga said adding that through the program his government is educating over 300 students.
Kahiga also disclosed that last year, his administration disbursed Sh40 million to thousands of needy students as Elimu Bursary Funds.
‘My government remains committed to supporting the education of our
children, the improvement of academic performance in our county and, ultimately, the lives of our youth,’ said Kahigà.
He said his administration will soon disburse the Elimu Fund bursaries to assist some of the county’s students from vulnerable homes in secondary schools, colleges, polytechnics and special schools.
He urged the students to maintain discipline as they report back to school and emphasized on the need to focus on their studies, to set goals and work towards achieving their dreams.
The beneficiaries thanked the Governor saying that they are now assured of proceeding with their studies smoothly and promised to work hard in school.
